For 6 months from June to Dec '15 I worked on a project to design and create furniture from salvaged fishing vessels. Partnering with Ship builders and salvagers Exeter Maritime Services and local craftsman Barney Dearsley, the work was a mixture of hands on creativity and Computer Aided Design. The mirrors below were cut out of ships fuel tanksBlanket box made from the side of a mahogany yacht'Fish' - Sculpture hand cut from the stern of a fishing boat wreck.Fish 3m long outdoor table incorporating teak decking from a 1936 trawlerDesigning the 10mm thick steel table base with Computer Aided Design Lights made from discarded welding spoolsThe circular metal spools held a wire used in welding machines but were discarded after use. Barney recognised the potential to incorporate them into lighting and I took the idea forward with several experimental models. The bases are made from solid brass bar. This type used an old fish paste jars as the light diffuser. The head of this one incorporated a brass reflector that swivelled around the bulb on a bicycle bearing. Another rotating head model incorporating prisms and a dimmer switch.

Along with 7 other veterans I was invited to participate in a project with the Royal Albert Memorial Museum where we individually produced a piece of artwork in response to the British Museum's touring 'Warriors of the Plains' exhibition.
